Elizabeth Kahane is an American artist whose photographic practice bridges documentary, installation, and viewer experience. Working under the gender-neutral acronym "E.A. KAHANE," she transforms images into immersive encounters that expand photography beyond its traditional boundaries.
Her installations integrate light, sculpture, video, and custom-designed objects—light boxes, furniture, murals, and silk screens—inviting viewers to step into the images rather than simply observe them. Kahane divides her time between New York, Rhode Island, Florida, and Brescia, Italy. When not in the studio, she can often be found traveling, sailing, or designing new ways for viewers to physically enter and engage with photographic images.

Kahane's work is rooted in a lifelong photographic practice shaped by curiosity, travel, and a deep engagement with place. Whether capturing Central Park, African wildlife, Italian landscapes, car races, or New York parades, her images reveal a recurring sensibility: beauty intertwined with joy, movement, and human connection.

Her most recent project, HEART OF THE RACE, Master Mechanics of the Mille Miglia, honors the skilled mechanics whose labor makes the historic 1000 Miglia race possible. Inspired by Irving Penn's Small Trades, she created formal studio portraits and on-the-road images documenting their skill, endurance, and inventive repairs. The project premiered at Museo Mille Miglia and at MoCA Centro per le Nuove Culture in Brescia, Italy.
Kahane has presented exhibitions and site-specific installations at Museo Mille Miglia, MoCA Brescia, the New York Historical Museum, Art Center of Sarasota, and the Temple Emanu-El Bernard Museum. Earlier projects include OFF THE WALL, on Safari with E.A. KAHANE, We Need a Parade, and FRONT ROW SEAT, The Most Beautiful Race in the World. Her 2024 book, COME JOIN THE PARADE!!, 25 Years from My Third Floor Window, received coverage from The Today Show, Vogue, NPR, ABC, CNN Style, and many other high-profile publications.
